Art Residency
Each year from 2023, Il Gattopardo has hosted a group of artists for 4-6 weeks in the villa, where they can live and work on their own artistic project.
Artists from different creative fields (painting, sculpting, photography, music etc.) from all over Europe stayed at il Gattopardo bringing their dreams, aspiration and artistic talent to find fresh inspiration.
The residency aims to offer participants, each with their own unique background and experience, the benefit of each other’s presence and a venue that will offer time, space and an opportunity to further deepen your own artistic practise.
Workspaces
There are workspaces inside and outside the villa like an outdoor space (covered) with some tools for wood working, and studios and work spaces inside the house. There are also some easels and a printer available.
We encourage collaboration with local artisans to develop your artistic project. We have a local network of supporters who are willing to help and support participating artists.
Visits to local museums and cultural spaces
It is possible to visit local cultural spaces like for example the Ferrania Film Museum and the old buildings in Ferrania where photographic and cinematographic films of the famous brand were produced.
Visiting a traditional festival, going for an hike in the surroundings or having a typical Italian dinner are some of the activities residents can do in this area.
Exhibition
At the end of a residency program, we usually organise a small and short collective exhibition in Cairo Montenotte to show the work you have made during your stay.
The Nouveau Grand Tour
The Nouveau Grand Tour is a multidisciplinary program aimed at artists from all fields of creation, conceived and designed by the Institut français Italia (IFI) and the Embassy of France in Italy.
This project inaugurates a contemporary form of the 18th-century tradition of the Grand Tour, which allowed the youth of Europe to travel from city to city to discover Europe’s artistic heritage (and Italian Renaissance art in particular).
This New Grand Tour offers selected young artists the opportunity to be accompanied in their creative process, without production constraints, and in so doing to connect with various local cultural actors.
Il Gattopardo is one of the partner residencies in Italy and each year from 2023 hosts some of the french young artists selected by the jury.
